AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM ASSISTANTS
Job Description
Leverett Elementary is starting a new afterschool program for children in grades K-6 to engage in structured activities and supervised freeplay. We are looking to hire qualified Assistants to supervise children, support their play, and sometimes lead group activities. Ideal candidates are compassionate, present, flexible, and love working with kids.
This program runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30 to 5:30, with an extended Wednesday schedule of 12:30 to 5:30. It is our mission to provide high quality, affordable, Out of School Time Care to Leverett children in grades K through 8. Assistants will be paid $20 an hour. Applicants who can work every school day (total of 17 hours/wk) may be prioritized, but we will hire applicants for specific days as well (for example, if you can only work Tuesdays and Thursdays you may still apply).
Program Values
Our program aims to uplift young people by providing opportunities for authentic self-expression and deep fun. The program is rooted in values of autonomy, youth empowerment, centering childhood, need-based conflict resolution, and community care.
Qualities of Ideal Candidates:
- Have prior experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Alignment with program values
- Ability to supervise school age students in outdoor wooded environments involving mild physical activity
- Ability to work in hot or cold weather with mild precipitation
- Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities
- Ability to work with students with special educational or emotional needs
First Aid and/or CPR certification is a plus but not required.
Job Expectations:
- Attend afterschool sessions and work as a team with program staff
- Supervise students and support their play
- Build nurturing relationships with students
- Assist in navigating challenging interpersonal and group dynamics with empathy and patience
- Assist in leading games and activities as needed
- Attend orientation and in-service trainings
- Communicate with your supervisor when issues arise and give advance notice if you can’t make it to work
Requirements:
Be at least 18 years old
Get fingerprinted and pass a background check

Time: Daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesdays till 1:30 p.m.
Rates are as follows:
Teacher: $120/day ($110 on Wednesday)
Para-Educator: $100/day ($90 on Wednesday)
Nurse/RN: $175/day ($155.00 on Wednesday)
Nurse/LPN: $125/day ($105 on Wednesday)
