DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES – SPECIAL EDUCATION

QUALIFICATIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

-The overall responsibility is to support our student's equitable access to excellent educational options, to enjoy learning, and to discover their unique strengths, interests, strategies for learning, and tools they need to elevate their learning

-Maintain student, parent, and team confidentiality 

-Collaborate closely with Student Support Services Coordinator to ensure prompt and precise special education documentation

-Oversight of all special education programs, policies and procedures; in-district and out-of-district student referrals, placement and programming; student referrals, evaluation and IEP development processes and procedures

-Oversight of all -Title VI, IX and Civil Rights Coordinator

-Write special education (240; 262) grants, and collaborate with principals and Director of Finance and Operations in the budget lines for those grants, and maintain compliance on all grant requirements

-With Coordinator, submit annual Circuit Breaker files

-Maintain communication with legal counsel regarding compliance with all special education regulations

-Attend trainings to maintain current knowledge of regulations, legal issues

-Participate on Union #28 Leadership team, offering contributions regarding special education compliance, student equitable access to excellent educational opportunities

-Conduct annual trainings (parents’ rights; civil rights)

-At the request of the district team, participate in IEP meetings

-Communicate with parents in a supportive and knowledgeable manner, with the well-being of their child as the focus

-Communicate and collaborate with and support individual teachers and student support teams, always with a positive, action oriented, and student-centered approach  

-Outstanding communication skills

-Excellent time management and organizational skills

-Complete DESE special education and Civil Rights Program Review on DESE rotating schedule

-Administrator of Special Education License--Massachusetts

Playgroup Facilitator

 

The Union 28 Community Network for Children program is hiring for an educator to join our team.

  • Stipended position for each 1.5 hour session
  • Part-time, unbenefitted 
  • 1-2 playgroup sessions per week
  • School year schedule with possible sessions in July.
  • Grant funded position
  • May work within the Union 28 communities of Erving, Leverett, New Salem, Shutesbury and Wendell.

Become a Playgroup Facilitator and make a meaningful impact in your community! As a Playgroup Educator, you'll have the opportunity to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for families. 

Facilitators will offer parent/child educational playgroups that align with the following EEC guidelines. Parent/Child educational playgroup facilitators must:

  1. Have backgrounds (training/education, experience) in child development/early education and guide children and adults through group and individual activities focused on developing early learning skills;
  2. Promote CNC programs, activities and the Ages & Stages Questionnaire.
  3. Be effective in building social and learning networks amongst families
  4. Ensure the safety and quality of education supplies used in playgroups, maintaining adequate quantities to support curriculum delivery.
  5. Support CNC Staff by collecting monthly attendance data for intake and reporting purposes, communicating relevant information.
  6. Work in collaboration with CNC program staff and partnering agencies (libraries/schools, etc)
  7. Be able and willing to set up, clean up, and put in storage  the playgroup activities and materials each session.

 

Qualifications & Education:

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and underserved communities from a strength based perspective.
  • Desire to support all families with young children
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, child development, and parent support
  • Associates Degree
  • Musical skills a plus
  • Ability to pass CORI and Fingerprinting
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs safely

Rates are as follows:

Teacher: $120/day ($110 on Wednesday)

Nurse/RN: $175/day ($155.00 on Wednesday)
Nurse/LPN:  $125/day ($105 on Wednesday)
